Magnetic Filtration Systems

Find Out More

What is a Magnetic Filtration System?

Magnet Expert's range of magnetic filtration systems are designed to remove fine particles utilising high-intensity magnets that easily attract and remove the smallest of ferrous contaminants. Our systems can be fully customised to your specifications, ensuring for the most efficient method of filtration.

We exclusively supply magnets and magnetic systems of the highest quality and that includes our magnetic filtration systems which are crafted to ensure enhanced efficiency, optimal filtration and exceptional durability.

How do Magnetic Filtration Systems work

Process machinery required to produce wet or viscous products generate waste containing fine iron particles and contaminants, which in turn can adversely cause damage to pumps, slides and internal parts, all affecting the quality of finished product.

Whilst cleaner coolants and lubricant liquids can help maintain the condition of processing machinery, these coolants and fluids can eventually build up dirt, leading to wear to machinery. As a result, this can affect the quality of the finished product, leading to waste and less efficient processing lines

Conventional filters within processing lines can also become damaged and must be replaced regularly, and may struggle to effectively remove fine metal particles. Effective magnet filtration is therefore paramount in all modern manufacturing environments, preventing damage, reducing maintenance and increasing product quality.

Benefits of Magnetic Filtration Systems

Magnet Expert’s magnetic filtration systems can significantly prolong equipment’s life span by removing almost 100% of ferrous contamination compared to traditional coolant filters that may typically leave ferrous particles smaller than 5-10 microns circulating in the fluid. With contaminant free processing lines, processes remain efficient and more economical with less machine downtime and maintenance required.

Choosing Magnet Expert for your magnet filtration provides you with a wealth of benefits.

Enhanced process productivity

Breakdowns, wear & machine downtime in processing lines is reduced.

Improved Health & Safety

With contaminant free processing lines, bacterial growth is minimised.

Environmentally Friendly

Filter waste and fluid disposal is reduced allowing for ferrous waste to be recycled.

Reduce Consumable Filter Costs

Through our high quality systems, there is no need to replace consumable media filters.

Increased Product Quality

With cleaner fluids in processing lines, product quality remains to the highest level.

Extended Fluid & Coolant Life

Through filtering ferrous contaminants, costs are reduced and fluid disposal decreases.

Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly does a magnetic filtration system pay for itself?

There are many reasons why filtration equipment is recommended and it is difficult to specify actual estimated cost savings that are made by fitting the equipment Many large companies such as Ford usually have central coolant and cutting fluid systems supplying many machining centres in their production lines. Obviously, all the swarf generated from the machining operations needs to be removed to avoid serious damage to coolant pumps etc. Much of the larger pieces of swarf are removed by passing the fluid through strainers but these do not stop the fine particles from passing through. This is where the magnetic filtration products are installed to ‘clean up’ the fluid. It has been shown from many trials carried out in these situations that installing the filtration equipment does result in giving extended life to the cutting fluids which in turn has a major effect on extending cutting tool life. This obviously gives a cost saving, which for these large manufacturing companies can result in many thousand pounds over a reasonably short period of time. So, it is not easy to put actual figures based on pay back period, every situation is different and it is not safe to start quoting pay back periods, you need to highlight the benefits as mentioned earlier.

How difficult is it to retrofit into an existing line?

Every installation is different and each will have its own particular requirements. Most process lines requiring filtration equipment will be closed systems, so installation usually involves breaking into the pipework fitting the required equipment often using standard flange fittings. This becomes a straight forward installation.

Do magnetic filters capture non-ferrous particles?

Magnetic filtration equipment can only capture ferrous materials. Non magnetic contamination must be captured using other filtration equipment. The larger sized contamination can be removed using various sized mesh filters and the very fine sized particles can be removed using gauze or paper filtration equipment. This type of filter equipment cannot be cleaned so it usually is replaced on a regular basis to ensure the fluids are kept in their best condition.

How do I know what flow rate or magnetic strength I need?

The filtration equipment always must have a larger free volume within the unit compared of the size of the pipework in the process line. If the free space within the unit is less than the area in the pipework, then there will be a restricted flow rate. As far as magnetic strength is concerned, this will depend on the type of contamination as well as the level of contamination that is expected to be present in the process line. Our team of experts are more than happy to talk over your requirements and find a solution that works best for your business.

How long does a custom-built system take to deliver?

Every system may be different, and approx. delivery times will be given after initial assessment and outline design work has been completed. Some equipment will be straight forward and they may be fitted by the customer.

Can I use magnetic filtration alongside my existing filter rather than replacing?

Yes, it can usually be used as well as other pieces of equipment it all depends on the type of equipment already installed as well as the type and level of contamination that is needing to be removed.
